“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” (Proverbs 4:23)
This is an easy method of memorizing the Scripture that will work psychologically in the subconscious mind. It is a method of remembering by reading Bible verses out loud five times twice a day for seven days. Reading them first thing in the morning and last thing before sleep at night works best. Follow these instructions, and you will easily remember the memorized scripture and its location. This memorization process was developed by J.O. Grooms and has helped people memorize Scripture for over 50 years. It may be helpful for kinesthetic learners to write out the Scriptures on paper.
Some like to tape a copy over their sink in the bathroom or take a picture of the Scriptures with their phone. Memorize the first three scriptures first. After you can quote those three from memory, memorize the next three. When you have 6 of them learned, memorize the final two. Each Scripture matches a letter in the acronym PPLANTER. You are planting God’s word to help develop the fruit of the spirit. (Galatians 5:22-23) Remember, the idea is that you distract and replace negative, intrusive thoughts and replace them with God’s Word.
It will take just a few minutes each day to memorize these Scripture verses. That is a lot less time that many people spend trying to combat the guilt and shame of their past life or other intrusive thoughts that negatively impact their daily life. When we “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God,” We have a powerful tool to relieve ourselves of those destructive invasive thoughts.
“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” (Romans 8:6-8)
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” (Proverbs 4:23).
“…take up the sword of the Spirit.” (Romans 8:31)
